The Ulm model: What was it? Where is it?
BA Dissertation
This book was my final research project, as part of the BA Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins. The thesis is an investigation into the legacy of the german design school HfG Ulm (Ulm School of Design) through the Ulm Model – the school’s ideals and philosophies – specifically relating to design systems and modularity, and the designer’s role in society.
Through analysing some of the creations that came out of the school and its community of designers, I tried to identify what those ideas were, look into how they moved on from their birthplace, tried to see where they can be found today and what they mean in today’s society, and where they may lead us in the future.
